Eye Candy Spectacular! About that Lancome Rose

I’ve been good at refraining from buying makeup for the past year, but as soon as I saw a preview of the Lancome Rose Blush Powder, my mind went “MINE!” The first few times I saw it on Saks and Lancome website, it went out of stock before I had a chance to get it. I finally bought it from Nordstrom but it seems to be in stock from a few other retailer as well if you google it. Anyways, let’s be honest, $60 is overpriced and more for novelty sake than practicality. But it’s pretty, so let’s enjoy the eye candy~~ 20170128_145645

The product is basically a light pink fabric flower, coated in highlighter powder and packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. The product is very lightweight since it’s just a fabric rose coated in powder. Continue reading Eye Candy Spectacular! About that Lancome Rose

Marc Jacobs Up All Night Lip Creme Set. Love

Sephora had an event yesterday for VIB/Rouge to preview and buy holiday sets in advance (you also get x2/x3/x4 points all week if you are BI/VIB/Rouge). I really went to pick up my free birthday present, to stuff myself with free pastries and didn’t really need anything. It’s a nice event since it’s not super crowded, there’s plenty of food and the staff are super friendly. I was going to grab a pack of Shiseido cotton and get out, but then I saw this20160910_143240 I couldn’t keep my eyes off the Marc Jacobs clutch. It’s SHINY! It’s PINK! It’s got a big tassel and it’s Marc Jacob! Oh right, it’s also got mini lipsticks in it, if you are interested.20160910_143316Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite fashion designer. While I love LOVE Highliner, the brushes, the blushes and the nail polishes, I just don’t care for the lip liner or Kiss Pop. However, these lipsticks are pigmented, easy to apply and moisturizing on the lips.  Continue reading Marc Jacobs Up All Night Lip Creme Set. Love

From Day to Night: Easy Makeup Transitions!

Can you believe it’s almost September? However, the weather where I’m at still screams of summer and summer vacations. One of my favorite vacation spot within US is Las Vegas. It’s interesting to see the mini Pyramid, Camelot, Eiffel Tower and Venice styled complex on the strip, but my favorite part is watching the water fountain “dancing” to the music in front of Bellagio, and you MUST go to O by Cirque du Soleil at least once! I actually went there because of a conference and didn’t really plan anything, but if you are going, definitely check on sites such as for best deals so you are not stuck waiting and paying extra for the show that starts in 3 hours. Still worth it tho. Even among circuses, how often do you see a stage opening up to reveal a lake/pool underneath????

One thing that I did not enjoy, however, was my makeup melting off my face, and I was too lazy to carry a bunch of makeup with me while walking. However, I’ve learned a few things since then, such as how easy it is to transition your makeup from day to night with only 2-3 products. It’s proven quite convenient lately when there’s a social event I want to go to right after work and I don’t want to redo my makeup. Continue reading From Day to Night: Easy Makeup Transitions!

Swatchfest: Summer blushes! Marc Jacob, BeccaxJH or Estee Edit?

Finally went to the mall last weekend! It was my first time in months and there were so many pretty blushes and highlighters. I haven’t been posting or even wearing makeup lately, but these are too beautiful to not share. Marc Jacobs is a hit or miss for me generally. I love my Marc Jacobs lip balm, Highliner and nail polish, but I’m not as enthusiastic about the lip colors. Fortunately, these Air Blush Soft Glow Duo are a hit.

20160729_130350The powders are soft and easy to pick up, but not dusty or fragile. The colors are pigmented but soft and blendable with a natural finish. The top row are the lighter color for the Glow Duo, bottom are the darker color for the Glow Duo and the middle are the two mixed together. There is a color difference between the lighter and darker side, and the palette is big enough that you can easily adjust to go lighter or darker. Despite the name, these Glow Duo are not very shimmery or glowy but more like a gradient blush. However, if you want natural looking blushes that are easy to work with and great for all skintones, then I would definitely recommend these.

20160729_134850The Estee Edit Barest Blush were also on display, so I decided to swatch them as well. There is a very light shimmery blot shape on top of the blushes, but it goes away after a few swatches to reveal the blush underneath. The colors are soft with a natural finish just like Marc Jacobs, but with a more nude undertone and the powder gets slightly more dusty when swatched. The colors melt into the skin and is very natural looking. You will never look like a clown with these whether you are a beginner or is heavy-handed.

On the other hand, if you prefer your blushes/highlighters to take the center stage rather than as a compliment to the rest of your makeup, Becca x Jaclyn Hill Duo is what you want! So shimmery, so pigmented and so great for contouring!20160729_131531The highlighter provides a beautiful multicolored shimmer while the blushes are very pigmented. Champagne pop have more of a peachy gold sheen while Prosecco Pop have more of a nude sheen. The blushes have a natural finish but are very pigmented. You definitely want to use a super soft or fan brush when applying these. These are great if you like a very blushy or highlighted look.

And as I was walking out, I saw the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lightening Powder on display. They are meant to be used for strobing/highlighting, unlike the Ambient Powder that can be used all over the face, so they are a bit more shimmery than the all over powders. They are less shimmery and have a bit more color than the BeccaxJH Duos, great if you like a natural finish. It’s the same texture as the Hourglass Ambient Powder, and it’s difficult to capture the shimmers but these are the color undertones.20160729_135324

If you like shimmer and pigmented blushes, BeccaxJacyln Hill Duo is a great choice for contouring or more pronounced looks. Estee Lauder is great for everyone since it provides soft color with a nude undertone. If you like Hourglass Ambient Powder and want a natural glow highlighter, then the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder will not disappoint. When all things considered, Marc Jacob Duo is more my type since it can be natural or bold and I can do a slight blush contouring with the lighter/darker shade. I’m trying very hard to hold back because I know Sephora will DEFINITELY have a 20% off in the fall. So, did any new makeup catch your eyes lately?

Test test test 123: Blotting paper comparison, worth the money?

The thought of summer conjures up images of sunshine, pretty dresses and … the heat that defies all attempt to not look shiny…… Yes, there are mattifying primers and mattifying powder, but reapplication is such a hassle, you might look cakey and it’s not sanitary. Instead, blotting paper is the way to go. It soaks up the oil without adding onto or disturbing your makeup. Or in my case, the mattifying primer can be a tad drying on me, so blotting papers tone down the shine without drying me out.

There are many types of blotting paper, from the fancy Tatcha one that magazines rave about and cost almost $20 to public bathroom toilet paper that some people claim works just as well… but do they? I got myself some blotting papers along with toilet paper (from bathroom at work) and got to work. The blotting papers I’m testing are:

  • Sephora Matte Blotting Films – $18.50 for 100 sheet (18.5 cents per sheet).
  • Tatcha Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Paper – $12 for 30 sheet (40 cents per sheet).
  • Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens – $10 for 100 sheet (10 cents per sheet).
  • Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing sheet – $5 for 50 sheet (10 cents per sheet).
  • Cheap toilet paper – free?

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Swatchfest!

How many lipstick swatches can you fit on your arm?…. is a question that I don’t really ask myself. But apparently, approximately 24. Urban Decay decided to come out with the Vice series of lipsticks with a hundred shades! From brights to nudes to metallic to green/purple. I liked their Revolution formula and saw this sample as a promo on Sephora, so I have to get it to test it out. And I haven’t been wearing makeup in almost half year. So what better way to jump-start my makeup love again than with 24 new shades of lipsticks? The samples range from purple/pink to red/brown to nude and includes all 6 finishes, so it gives me a good idea of the range. 20160618_13164420160618_131707

The swatches are in the same position as the sample, starting with Seismic on top left to Gubby on bottom right corner. Some pink/red shades are particularly long-lasting and stubborn, so much that you can still see the stain after I cleansed with cleansing water! May Skincare Journal. Tom Ford Summer!

So I actually got these last summer, but since I like them so much and they are available again this summer, I figured I would mention them. Tom Ford summer collection! I like warm peachy colors, so my favorite of the collection are Sheer Lip Color in Sweet Spot and the Cream and Powder Eye Color in Golden Peach (this color seems to be in high demand, grab it before it’s gone!).20160417_131425

Golden Peach consists of a pinky nude cream shadow in a glass pot, and a gold champagne glitter powder on top. The eye color also have a small mirror under the lid, it’s big enough for you to see the whole eye or lip comfortably. I was afraid the cream shadow was going to look too pink since everything turns pinker on my face, but it was the perfect nude eyeshadow for my light Asian complexion with yellow undertone. The glitter particles are very small and there’s no fallouts, so it did not irritate my eyes. They provide more of a slight sparkle than color, so they are appropriate for all ages/occasions. Sweet Spot is a pinky coral moisturizing lipstick. It definitely adds color to your lips but is not opaque and allows your natural lip color to peek through a bit. Both of them also lasts the whole day no problem, unless it rains or I wipe them. Do you own any Tom Ford? Any favorites? Continue reading May Skincare Journal. Tom Ford Summer!

Eye Candy Spectacular! Disney for the grown up princesses

This is purely eye candy, because they are really really pretty, and because I really don’t know where you can get them now. I saw the Cinderella mirror on eBay for like $200 last year and I haven’t seen any since. This is from the very first Sephora+Disney collaboration. The collection consists of three princesses: Cinderella, Jasmine and Ariel.

There were a lot of products in each collection, with the highlight being the eyeshadow palettes and the compact mirror. I’m picky about eyeshadow quality so I went for the compact mirrors instead, and they are every bit as beautiful as I expected with impressive attention to details. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. =)20160518_164209 Continue reading Eye Candy Spectacular! Disney for the grown up princesses

Behind Every Great Blush is a Great Brush

Often times, a good blush/cheek brush is the difference between “I’ve got blush on” and “OMG I look good!” It’s true that some brushes can cost hundreds of dollars, but you can get wonderful brushes for $50ish. It’s all about the quality, material and preference rather than price. I’ve been reading reviews, stalking sales and finally splurging for “the best” that many Makeup Artists and bloggers have raved about — Suqqu Cheek Brush. Now that my cheek brush collection has been completed, it seems like a good time to talk about it!
20160403_111703And doesn’t spring just make you want to put a little blush on? Some pink, peach or coral with the prettiest and softest brush, yes? But there are so many kinds of cheek brushes available, what should you use? They can be categorized by shape, which depends on the technique/purpose, or by type, which depends on the product or your preference.
