Lo and behold! Marc Jacob’s new orange and gold!

Ok, lame attempt at rhyme aside, Marc Jacobs came out with new Highliner shades! Seriously, out of all the eyeliners I’ve had and tried, Marc Jacob Highliner have the BEST lasting power and great color. It is pigmented, long lasting, and smudge/waterproof. It doesn’t tug on the eyelid and comes with a sharpener if you want a sharper line. The black mini highliner I got from Sephora promo has been my goto for testing the lasting power of various makeup removers  (example 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

If you are a long time reader of my blog, you will also know that I am obsessed with orange. It’s not too hard to find orange lip colors or even cheek colors, but orange for eyes is very limited, especially eyeliners. When I see the new highliner shades have an orange in it, I jumped on it. If you buy it from Marc Jacobs website, use the code APR to get a mini lipstick and mini highliner in brownout with $50 purchase. It is also available on Sephora, where you can get points and there’s always plenty of promo codes to choose from.

I got Orange Crush (78) and In The Buff (80). They are my first full size highliners and it’s nice that they come with a sharpener at the end, so you can do precise application as well as smokey if you want. If you are planning to smudge, work fast because it sets pretty fast and once it does, it. will. not. move. In the Buff is a light white gold and would work well to highlight the inner corner or along the bottom lash. Orange Crush is more of a metallic burnt orange.

First swatch is of the two Highliners. The thinner line is 1 stroke and the thicker line is going over it a few times. Unlike Blacquer, these are not as intense with just one swipe, which works for me because they have a somewhat metallic shimmer, more shimmery than I expected. In The Buff is much lighter than Urban Decay’s El Dorado, the darker gold swatches shown here. Orange Crush is definitely orange, but it have a brown tone to it and is not as bright or intense as the Sephora 24/7 liner in Tangerine, which makes it more wearable for most people I think.

The lasting power are as awesome as I expected. I let the liners set for a minute, then rubbed them with a tissue and none of them bulged. I then rubbed them under running water and Urban Decay pencil liner smudged a bit but they were still going strong. I then put some KGD cleansing water on a cotton swab and rubbed it over the liners, it took off the Urban Decay and Sephora liner with a few swipe, but the Marc Jacob highliners really do not want to leave. I am SO excited that there is a good orange eyeliner available now, and I was really really tempted to get the pink or light green but I know I would never wear them. So, are you planning to get any of the highliners?

ps. If you want to see all the shades, Temptalia have swatches up. I usually find her swatch colors a bit off from real life, but from the two I got it seems the colors are pretty true this time.
