Finally! The last batch of tinted moisturizer, BB and CC cream that I’m trying/swatching. You can find part 1 here, or swatches of different foundations here and here. While there is a lot of variation with foundation in terms of texture (thick balm to drippy liquid) and coverage, there isn’t a lot of variation between TM/BB/CC. They all have a creamy consistency with light/medium coverage.
One thing to consider is that some of them are suppose to adjust to your natural skin color, so there MIGHT be some variation in color on my skin and yours. With that said, I’m a bit distrustful of a makeup product being smart enough to adjust to your exact shade, so I’d rather go for a shade close to my skintone rather than a 1-shade-fits-all. Another thing to note, unless you are applying it generously all over your face, do NOT rely just on this for your SPF during the day. You should wear a moisturizer or sunscreen underneath. While you can wear a primer with tinted moisturizer, some of the BB or CC cream already have primer mixed in so you don’t need to.
Tarte BB 12hr primer SPF30 in Light – no scent, creamy consistency and natural finish. It have light coverage. It does moisturize and prime as well as providing color. I don’t know about the anti-aging claims.
Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer SPF20 in Light/Medium – no scent, creamy consistency and natural finish. There is very little difference between this (Amazonian Clay) and 12hr. This feels just a touch more creamy with a bit more color while the 12hr have a more primer feel, so if you want a bit more coverage then maybe this but if you want pore blurring/primed canvas where you are planning to add foundation onto then the 12hr it is.
Too Faced Beauty Balm SPF20 in Nude Glow – no scent, light creamy consistency and light ccoverage. It gives a natural, slightly dewy finish. There isn’t much difference between this and the Tarte Amazonian Clay TM, but this is a bit more luminous.
Peter Thomas Roth CC cream SPF30 in Light/Medium, Medium/Tan and Deep – no scent, creamy consistency and matte/natural finish. The only thing is I’m not sure how I feel about alcohol being the first ingredient….. with that said, what I am impressed with is the range of color. Most TM/BB/CC falls in the light to medium range, but the color Deep is actually a bit darker when applied. If you are a women of color wanting to try something lighter than foundation, try this!
Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 – very light sunscreen scent, liquid/thin creamy consistency and natural finish. This was one of the first and most popular BB cream I heard about way back when BB cream was just starting to become popular in US. Well……it looks a bit pink and ashy on me. If you have sallow skin and need some pink, try this. It does have some nice skincare friendly ingredients and a high SPF.
Smashbox Studio Skin 15hr wear foundation in 1.2 warm fair – very light scent, creamy consistency with medium coverage. It have a matte finish but unlike Urban Decay Naked foundation, it did not dry me out! It is lightweight and last through the whole day even with me sweating occasionally.
Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Alaska, St. Mortiz – light scent and liquidy lotion consistency. It have a natural finish and feels weightless on the skin, altho I’m unsure about the claim of lighten discoloration…
AmorePacific Moisture Bound Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 in 102 – perfume scented with a creamy primer-ish consistency like the Tarte BB primer. It have a natural finish and is lightweight. It’s got some nice ingredients and hydrates. Instead of water in the ingredients, they used bamboo sap, what they often use instead of water in their skincare line and probably partially responsible for the high price.
Maybelline Dream BB in Light/Medium – also shown in the part 1 of the swatchfest, I put it here for comparison purposes.
Smashbox Camera Ready CC SPF30 in Light/Medium – light scent of sunscreen, creamy consistency. It have light/medium coverage and feels like makeup on the skin but is not too heavy. It’s also got some nice ingredients. It is creamier than Smashbox BB cream.
Smashbox Camera Ready BB cream SPF35 in Light – light scent of sunscreen, liquidy cream consistency. It have a natural finish and feels lightweight on the skin. It’s also got some nice skincare ingredients.
And that is that. I’m surprised by how much I like Smashbox. I wasn’t too impressed with their eyeshadows compare to other mid-end or high-end brands, but the foundation was perfect. It was pigmented but weightless and longlasting. Despite the semi-matte finish, it didn’t try my skin out or make it look flat like UD Naked did. It was a tad too light, but nothing a light dusting of bronzer won’t fix. For lighter coverage, I’m liking Tarte BB, Nars TM and Smashbox BB. Thus, I conclude my face makeup search. Aside from a highlighter pen concealer post coming up, I do not want to see anything with the word tan, beige, neutral or undertone in them for awhile. @.@
